about us

“All living beings, things that move, are equally important, whether they are human beings, dogs, birds, fish, trees, ants, weeds, rivers, wind or rain. To stay healthy and strong, life must have clean air, clear water and pure food.”
John Africa, MOVE
Frontline Detroit emerged as a coalition
that worked to bring together thousands of folks to the climate justice rally before the 2019 summer Presidential Debate. We remain active and organized in our shared, strategic work: we are building power and growing community to strengthen frontline communities fighting for social, environmental, and climate justice!
Frontline Detroit builds power in people
to strengthen our frontline communities, as we fight for social, environmental, and climate justice. Frontline Detroit builds power through inclusive, intergenerational, and radically democratic organizing, as a people’s movement.

*Through democratic organizing we are inclusive; we build power through bottom-up organizing, where the community leads; we speak for ourselves and empower all others to do the same; we work together in solidarity and mutuality; we build just relationships among ourselves; and we commit to collective self-transformation.*
We are moving radically toward justice
As Frontline Detroiters, we are Black & Brown people leading a broadly inclusive coalition in a region known for extreme wealth gaps, emergency management, environmental racism, and apartheid. We are building power to transform our world: to dismantle systems that exploit people and the environment and to build a future world where people have the resources and capacity to heal each other and  to heal our ecosystems. We move radically because we have to realize environmental, economic, and social justice in our lifetimes.
